An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit the region on the night of January 11-12, 2017. There was only minor damage to the building, but the village's water supply and thus also the school were partially destroyed.

The lack of food, especially due to the reduced rice harvest, requires experience and flexibility in organizing procurement.


All students received a "fidget spinner" as a gift - the cult toy currently in Europe.


It was amazing how quickly - after a quick look at a video presentation of how it works - the children were able to use their new gadget.

A meeting was held with the parents in which they could present their concerns.


In several conversations with the head of the school department of the diocese, the appreciation of our work became clear - but also a regret that not all schools in the diocese have the same opportunities - free meals, free school clothes, teaching and learning materials without parents sharing the costs. The factors mentioned are decisive for the acceptance of the school in the village and the far above-average learning success.

After an eventful day, we say goodbye to the village community.



When we left, we could be sure that a good start to a successful new school year was guaranteed.

The plague - for us a plague that has been eradicated since the Middle Ages - struck Madagascar again in the months of August - December with 1000 dead.



Ambalafenomby was spared, probably also because of the improved sanitary and hygienic conditions resulting from the water supply. Nevertheless, the start of the new school year 2017/2018 was postponed by a few weeks, adjusted to the nationwide data, with corresponding effects on the school calendar for the following years.
