October / November 2013

Even if a lot can be arranged by e-mail and telephone with our confidants on site, it is still necessary to regularly check the condition and functioning of the school and school canteen.

Sep 2012

From 16.07. until 02.09. we were back in Madagascar, mainly to take care of the condition and functioning of the school.

(All of our travel and subsistence expenses are not borne by the foundation, but are borne by us privately!)

The water supply to the village and school has been restored.

The second school year in the new school has come to an end - mostly successfully - for 108 students.

For the first time in the history of the village, 7 pupils, who had attended the school for 2 years before the new school was built, took the uniform state final examination for elementary schools, CEPE. Registered.

4 students passed and thus gained the right to attend a secondary school.

To reward the successful graduates and to motivate all students, we held a celebration.

The 4 "graduates" received as a gift a kit with everything they need to attend secondary school,

120 students are registered for the new school year - we still have school clothes for the new ones from the reserve, but more school desks have to be purchased now.

With 2 classrooms for 60 children each, the planned capacity is exceeded by 20 children. However, we have ordered that all school-age children from the village who want to go to school are admitted, but children who want to switch to us from other schools in neighboring villages are turned away.

The service package provided by the school with learning materials provided (books, blackboards, notebooks, writing utensils), free school clothing and free food in the school canteen at a school fee of the equivalent of € -.50 or in kind makes approx. 385 grams of rice / child / month our school much more attractive compared to state schools.

We were also able to define the logistics for the school canteen - determination of the food, sources of procurement and transport, regulation of ongoing payments - with the people responsible on site and finally also solve new questions about the social security of the canteen staff.

Everything is prepared, the school year 2012/2013 can start on September 24th.

February / March 2012

The refectory has now been closed all around, to protect it from the rain, and another large table with benches has been installed to accommodate the increased, unexpectedly large number of students.

Unfortunately, two Cyclones (hurricanes), Gianna and Irina, have caused damage to the water supply, which must now be repaired.

The massive water masses have shifted the outlet of the spring and flushed large amounts of sediment into the system. As a result, the two sand settling tanks and the pump systems of the water tower were damaged. The repair work has been commissioned, although the hurricane season is not over yet and, in the worst case, damage could be caused again. The water supply to the school kitchen has been provisionally restored. The total repair costs have not yet been determined.

School buildings and refectory have passed their baptism of fire (better: wind – and water baptism) as shelters from cyclones.

The school and the school canteen were only out of order for 4 days.
